NEWS: Second cycle of cross border sea and waters litter monitoring and clean up activities successfully completed
In December 2025, representatives from the University of Montenegro – Faculty of Maritime Studies Kotor, in collaboration with experts from the Institute of Marine Biology and undergraduate students, successfully conducted the second cycle of beach litter monitoring and cleanup activities. Targeted locations included Jaz Beach (Budva), Ivana Beach (Ulcinj), and Blatna Beach (Herceg Novi), advancing our project’s efforts to combat marine plastic pollution.
Over two days, the team tested a newly acquired spectrometer for advanced plastic detection, significantly improving the precision in identifying and mitigating marine litter.
Complementing these efforts, an EOL boat identification campaign was conducted at key sites, including Solila Nature Reserve, Bjelila, Župa Park and Beach, Island of Flowers (Miholjska Prevlaka) in the Bay of Tivat; Municipality of Budva; Port Milena (Ulcinj); and Igalo and Kamenari (Herceg Novi). Over 15 EOL boats were detected and geolocated along the Montenegrin coast.
