NEWS: UIST Organizes Beach Clean-Up as Part of the Interreg IPA ADRION JOINABLE Project
The University of Information Science and Technology “St. Paul the Apostle” (UIST) organized a beach clean-up activity on 13 November at the Inex Olgica Beach area in Ohrid, as part of the Interreg IPA ADRION JOINABLE project. Students, university staff, and volunteers joined forces to collect plastic and other waste along the shoreline of Lake Ohrid—one of Europe’s most significant natural and cultural heritage sites. Participants were provided with gloves and bags, contributing their enthusiasm and commitment to protecting the environment.
This activity supports the objectives of the JOINABLE – JOINt approAch to Blue circuLar Economy project, which aims to reduce aquatic pollution and promote innovative solutions within the circular blue economy across the Adriatic–Ionian region. By collecting waste from beaches and lakeshores, the project seeks not only to remove pollution but also to highlight opportunities for transforming waste into resources and raising awareness of sustainable environmental practices. Similar actions are being carried out by all project partners, reinforcing the idea of coordinated efforts and shared responsibility for environmental protection.
Through this initiative, UIST reaffirms its dedication to ecological responsibility, regional cooperation, and community engagement. The University will continue supporting activities that contribute to cleaner ecosystems and a more sustainable future.
